I call this photoset “Avoiding finals/responsibilities and reminiscing on the best week and a half of my life”
1) The bus ride from Jeddah airport to Mecca
2) During tawaaf. I love this picture because you can see someone raising their hand at the Kaaba when passing the black stone; when you say bismillahi wa Allahu Akbar
3) lol this is right after we finished our ummrah. I look so bad and Yousuf is wearing Sheikh Faqih’s sunglasses. Sheikh Muhammad let me borrow a pair of his sunglasses cause he was like “Sarah trust me the second you step its like you’ll be blinded cause the floor is white and it reflects the sun’s light” and yes that’s exactly how it was which is why my eyes are squinted and I look dumb.
4) Walking towards the haram. We stayed in the Fairmont hotel which is the one directly connected to the haram which was awesome alhamdulilah
5) Ishaa time. this is nothing compared to hajj
6) This pic has a frustrating story behind it. After I realized that women aren’t allowed to pray on the mataaf -the kabaa floor- (or actually i should say the religious police go around telling the women to leave during the jamma3 prayers) I decided that I would try to sneak it during tawaaf. I figured that they cant pick someone out of their tawaaf because they’re in the middle of ibadaa. So my plan was to go to the masjid like 2 hours before fajr to perform a nafal tawwaf and then in the middle or end of my tawaaf pray fajr and ill be right there by the kabaa so they cant tell me to leave cause it’d be too hard. So that’s what i did. I went down to the masjid early and started my tawwaf and I finished the 7 rounds right as they made the athaan for fajr. So I just kept going around and pretended I was in tawwaf (which I don’t know if that’s ok lol) but there was quite a chunk of time between the first and second athaan and guess what! They actually have the religious police go into the tawaaf and tell the women to leave-__- I actually took a video of it and you can hear the guy yelling at me as I make a quick left turn away from him hahah and he got so mad at me. (All the religious police are sheiukh and they wear that robe over their thobe and have walkie talkies so you know who they are) Anyways my plan would have worked but they’re so freaking scary and intimidating that they got me to leave. I ended up in the pathway to saffa and marwa. I planned this fajr prayer the whole day before. I was so excited to actually pray right there in front of the kaba and witness the glory of islam but unfortunately the self righteous muslims in our ummah always seem to have the upper hand and they pushed me to the back where I could only see a corner, just a glimpse of the kabaa. I was so angry and disappointed, I was on the verge of tears. I tried to tell a guard my situation but he just pointed to the direction I was suppose to go. I stood there and felt so helpless. So I went and sat down in my designated spot and waited for fajr to start. The sheikh said allahu akbar and we all stood up. I said allahu akbar and started my salah but I watched and waited for all the guards to line up to pray. As soon as they did I said salam to my right and left and got out of prayer. I ran to the nearest spot I could find that was on the mataaf and I saw a small group of Malaysian women praying together; so I stood next to them and prayed with them. I just stared at the kabaa the whole time and felt so calm even after all that stress and annoying crap I just went through.
7) This is the top of jabal noor where ghaar hira is located. This is where the revelation came to the prophet. By far the hardest climb/hike of my liiiiife AND it had steps and a railing. The mountain is about 6 miles from the haram (around the area where the prophet lived) and its about 2100 ft high. The prophet sallalahu alayhi wa salam visited the cave of hira quite often and would stay days at a time there contemplating life. My brother is a fit guy, he played football in high school and still works out and eats pretty healthy and he said he was so tired by the time we got back down. Just imagine the physical strength the prophet had to have to make this trek multiple times, over and over. Not only that, but Khadijah (ra) would ALSO make the hike to visit her husband and bring him (saw) water and food AND she did it while pregnant. Thats impressive yo. My legs were literally shaking like a flimsy piece of thread by the end and I was downing water the whole time. I didn’t even go into the cave it was JAM PACKED with people…mostly desi uncles rubbing themselves all over the walls hoping for miracles lol
8) At the foot of the mountain
9) THERE WERE MONKEYS AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN LOL. They would come up behind people and take their food and/or belongings. They did it to this one older kurdish man (like probably in his 50s) and the man jumped on to the very thin ledge after the monkey to retrieve his hat. freaking fearless.
10) At the top of jabal noor. A little musallah set up for anyone who wants to pray. Also, i like that guy’s hat.
Next photoset will be of Medina but enough procrastination, I have to study :/

hahah mona i love you too <3 and thank you :) speaking of msa, not sure if you got my text but we’re not meeting this friday due to finals…we’ll reconvene next friday on the 24th.
heres a few pics at different times of the day and different angles of the kaba. the first one (the one on my desktop) is from the first floor, before stepping down onto the mataaf. the 2nd one is where i tried to pray fajr before i was told to move cause im a woman -___- and the last two my brother actually took during tawaaf around dhur time (you can see sheikh muhammad in one of the pics lol)

Following his release from Guantanamo Bay, Sami Al-Hajj, a (former) Guantanamo Bay detainee, dashes towards his eight year old son Mohammad and swoops him up in his arms, hugging him and planting tender kisses on his face in their first reunion after seven years.
After being imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay for seven years, during which he was repeatedly interrogated and tortured, including being physically, sexually, and psychologically abused, Al Hajj was released without any charges held against him.
Al Hajj, a journalist for the Al Jazeera network, was arrested in Pakistan in 2001 while on his way to do camerawork for the network concerning the war that had recently broken out in Afghanistan. It has been speculated by both Al Hajj’s lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, and Reporters Without Borders that the main reason that he was incarcerated for so long was due to the US Miliary’s desire to make him an informant against Al Jazeera, as most of Al Hajj’s interrogations consisted of American interrogators questioning him about the (Al Jazeera) network.
While in Guantanamo, Al Hajj wrote a poem titled Humiliated in Shackles to his son Mohammad:
When I heard pigeons cooing in the trees,
Hot tears covered my face. When the lark chirped, my thoughts composed
A message for my son.Mohammad, I am afflicted.
In my despair, I have no one but Allah for comfort. The oppressors are playing with me,
As they move freely around the world. They ask me to spy on my countrymen,
Claiming it would be a good deed. They offer me money and land,
And freedom to go where I please.Their temptations seize
My attention like lightning in the sky.But their gift is an empty snake,
Carrying hypocrisy in its mouth like venom,They have monuments to liberty
And freedom of opinion, which is well and good. But I explained to them that
Architecture is not justice.America, you ride on the backs of orphans,
And terrorize them daily.Bush, beware.
The world recognizes an arrogant liar.To Allah I direct my grievance and my tears.
I am homesick and oppressed.Mohammad, do not forget me.
Support the cause of your father, a God-fearing man.I was humiliated in the shackles.
How can I now compose verses? How can I now write? After the shackles and the nights and the suffering and the tears,
How can I write poetry? My soul is like a roiling sea, stirred by anguish,
Violent with passion.I am a captive, but the crimes are my captors’.
I am overwhelmed with apprehension.Lord, unite me with my son Mohammad.
Lord, grant success to the righteous.

I’m at the airport, sitting at my gate en route to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for umrah. Not sure how I even got this chance but it happened so quickly and I’m so lucky alhamdulilah. The cool thing is that my non-Muslim, Christian grandma is paying for my trip, alhamdulilah. She’s taught me more about faith than a lot of Muslims have. Anyway, this couldn’t be coming at a better time for me and I hope my heart can benefit from this trip on the deepest level possible inshallah. I’ll make dua for you all!
